Brittan Chamberlain is named 2014 TIES Exceptional Teacher
Each year, the TIES Exceptional Teachers program honors teachers who effectively use technology to motivate and increase student achievement.
District superintendents recommend two teachers for recognition in this program every year: one from our elementary division and one from our secondary division. This year, Brittan Chamberlin will be honored from the elementary division at the TIES Technology Conference on December 9, 2014.
Brittan is a Kindergarten through 6th grade Art teacher at Kaposia Education Center who loves art, technology, and has a passion for teaching and learning.
Brittan started using the Teaching for Artistic Behaviors center-based learning approach to art education in her classroom six years ago with much success. As students started to take their learning in different directions it was obvious that there was more support needed for this differentiated learning.
After attending numerous trainings and conferences and experimenting with different apps, programs, and equipment, Brittan adapted and implemented flipped learning into her art room. Brittan and her colleague record their art lessons and maintain YouTube channels which all students have access to. She developed a Moodle page to organize and post videos and quizzes for art students in 4th through 6th grade. These videos can be accessed by students anywhere, at any time. Students who need extra support can rewind and review the videos while other students can explore new media and try new techniques and challenge themselves, taking their art to a new level. The videos are also useful in the younger grades, absent students can quickly catch up on the missed lesson or can provide extra support.
Brittan also uses her Smart board and HoverCam to reinforce art lessons daily.
Congratulations to Brittan for receiving this prestigious award!
