February is I Love to Read Month
Who loves to read?! We here in the Kaposia media center sure do, and we know that we have a lot of Kaposia kids who love to spend their time with a good book as well. The month of February has been named “I Love to Read Month” and this year, our KEC students have the opportunity to use their love of reading in a special way. Each year, a picture book and a novel are voted on by Minnesota students to receive two prestigious awards, the Star of the North Picture Book Award for grades K-2, and the Maud Hart Lovelace Book Award for grades 3-5. When students come to the library during the month of February, they will have a chance to read or check out some of the books that are nominated for these awards and vote for their favorites. The books that win in each category will be announced in April, and our Kaposia votes will help select the winning books! This is a great chance for our students to be open-minded and try reading a book that they might never have tried otherwise. So, let’s get reading!

COLD WEATHER RECESS
We will attempt to send students out to recess everyday. However, if the temperature falls below 0 degrees or wind chill falls below -10 degrees, we will hold indoor recess. Check the district website page or find information on the major television news channels to determine local wind chills and temperature.
All students need to have the "Winter Five." A winter hat, gloves, winter jacket, snow pants, and boots. All winter gear should be labeled with the student's name.
Thank you for your help in keeping all of our students warm and safe this winter!
